Carbamide peroxide or Hydrogen Peroxide

What type of dental bleaching gel is best: Carbamide Peroxide or Hydrogen Peroxide? In short, the absolute best gel for dental bleaching is Carbamide Peroxide.  The reason is very simple.  The Carbamide Peroxide molecule is much more stable than the Hydrogen Peroxide molecule.

When a Hydrogen Peroxide gel is manufactured, it begins breaking down almost immediately.  Carbamide Peroxide was developed to retain the power of the Hydrogen Peroxide for a long period of time after manufacturing.  Upon contact with any organic material, Carbamide Peroxide breaks down into Hydrogen Peroxide, at which time it begins oxidizing the stains from the person's teeth.  The only difference is that your patients are getting the full power instead of a diluted version of the peroxide.

Bottom line, Carbamide Peroxide in a non-glycerin base is an ideal gel to use for dental whitening.  The pore penetration of Carbamide Peroxide gel is much greater and sensitivity reactions are minimized.  Additionally, it retains its power longer and is more reactive in teeth whitening.
